**Registration Deadline Extended to Monday, October 12**
The popular Horse Ownership Resources, Skills, and Education for Youth (HORSE U) program returns for another day of activities for young people interested in horses. Sponsored by the Auburn University Department of Animal Sciences, the event will be Saturday, October 24, 2015. It begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Stanley Wilson Beef Teaching Unit on the AU campus. A $20 registration fee includes t-shirt, lunch, and materials.
This hands-on program will focus on information and skills important for youth ages 9 and up who work with horses. The sessions are designed to be educational for everyone whether they are involved in showing, speed events or recreational riding. Topics for this year include:
- Digestive tract anatomy and function
- Feeds and feeding practices
- Emergency and first aid care
- Young horse handling
- Internal parasites
Part of the day will be spent at the Horse Center, and transportation will be provided for the participants between the facilities. Participants will be required to be dressed appropriately in long pants and closed-toe shoes for working around horses. Per facility and event policies, all participants must be at least 9 years of age by December 31, 2015.
The deadline for HORSE U registration is October 9, 2015. A link to the online registration portal and other important information is listed below.
